rudedog: I was making the crude point that 1Q 1998 to 1Q 1999 the CPQ service business grew from the low hundreds of millions to $1.6 billion. Although I did not spell it out I was giving the credit to CPQ, not Rando. I appreciate that Tandem contributed to 1Q 1998 and also appreciate that the new entity gained mainly from the DEC business merger (but may have lost some DEC business on the way). A couple of weeks ago a posted article cited a COMPAQ executive in one of the geographies to the effect that they expected annual revenues from services in excess of $15 billion by 2003. That would be more than double the 1999 FY $6.4 billion (assuming 1999 will be 4 x $1.6). If "by" 2003, he meant in FY 2002, they are expecting annual growth, measured from the 1999 base, of 30+% a year. Even if he meant by FY 2003, the expected growth rate is 20+% per annum.
