Why bother to monitor your investments at all? Buy some stuff and see how it did when you retire. That's what my Grandmother did.

On the other hand, someone who is looking to modify their investment portfolio now cares a lot about what the stock price will do in the next few weeks or months.

If all you care about is what the stock will look like in 6 months, why are you on SI in the first place?

Pete: I looked at your own posts. You asked fundamental questions about COMPAQ, you suggested that it should be taken over by DELL and you declared that you were in it for a quick flip in 6 months. None of that is consistent with your statement that we should stop debating and wait to see what the stock price will be in six months.
