MSFT's CarPoint Japan KK, a company preparing to offer car sales via the Internet, will offer exclusive data from used car auction company USS KK after forming a joint venture. The venture, USS Car Bank Net, will be capitalised at 100 million yen and owned 60% by USS and 40% by CarPoint Japan. It will be set up in Tokyo by May 31. CarPoint is also preparing to start operations this month. It is owned 50% by Softbank Corp, 40% by MICROSOFT CORP, 10% by YAHOO Japan Corp and capitalized at $7 million. Softbank President Masayoshi Son will become president of CarPoint. (Reuters 12:03 AM ET 05/12/99)
