I think the United States needs a good ethnic cleansing to get rid of all the politicians who think they know what's best for everybody else in the world

James,

I'll tell you what. Sometimes I get into a Machiavellian mood and think about telling the rest of the world to kiss my @ss and settle their own problems.

In fact, when the bombing first began, I had a deep-seated conviction that we should just let the KLA and Serbs beat the hell out of one another and stop trying to keep the Croats at bay.

Part of me tends to believe that the only path to peace is when all sides are so bloodied and war weary that they can think of nothing else but throwing away their weapons and finding a way to get along.

And in fact, there may be an empirical logic in this. Figure that the young bucks and less tolerant individuals are the ones more interested in settling their problems through violence, maybe they'll kill enough of each other that only the sensible ones will remain.

But then I think about the children who don't know any better and always wind up the innocent victims of nationalistic or religious intolerance and know that we can't stand by and do nothing.

Regards,

Ron

You know, it seems to me that the internet and information technology in general have started to revolutionize politics by reducing the ammount of BS politicians can get away with.

Sure, propaganda is still here, but its life span is shorter now that sources of information have become more diverse and difficult to control.

Propaganda should become more and more difficult as time goes and more people get their information from more decentralized sources.

If our world seems to be going through major convulsions now, I guess it is partly because a greater number of crooks / dictators / liars / are being exposed.

It's a painfull process, but one that should be good in the long term.
