Salmasi is the Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, and President of NextWave. He is formerly the President of the Wireless Telecommunications Division and Chief Strategic Officer of QUALCOMM Inc. of San Diego, California. He joined QUALCOMM as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of Planning and Development in 1988, as a result of the merger of QUALCOMM and Omninet Corp. At QUALCOMM, he successfully led the commercial development of the subscriber and infrastructure products, worldwide standardization, licensing agreements with numerous manufacturers, sales and marketing, and long-term business planning activities in support of the CDMA-based digital cellular service and Personal Communications Services (PCS) and Globalstar, a global network of low earth orbit satellites, business areas. Mr. Salmasi founded Omninet Corp. in 1984. At various times, through August 1988, he served as Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of Omninet. At QUALCOMM and Omninet, Mr. Salmasi made significant contributions to the conception and development of Mobile Satellite Systems (MSS) and digital cellular and Personal Communications Service (PCS) systems. He managed corporate affairs, directed research, development, and the general management of the OmniTRACS service and system (the world's first and largest operational land mobile satellite communications service.) In addition, Mr. Salmasi worked on MSS and Radiodetermination Satellite Service (RDSS) systems and service concepts, as well as the FCC applications for both service offerings. From 1979 to 1984, Mr. Salmasi was employed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where he held various technical and management positions involved in the development of NASA's Land Mobile Satellite Service program. Mr. Salmasi received two B.S. degrees (with Honors) in Electrical Engineering and Management Economics from Purdue University in 1977. He received his M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University in 1979 and Applied Mathematics from the University of Southern California in 1983, respectively. He has completed doctoral course work at the University of Southern California for his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Salmasi is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Sigma Xi, Eta Kappa Nu, Phi Eta Sigma and is listed in "Who's Who in U.S. Executives" and "Who's Who Worldwide."
