If you encounter problems with any links, we invite you to read the newsletter at our web site. goinvest.com Bond yields break one year highs, Rubin resigns, political turmoil in Russia (again), continuing war, China adding fuel to diplomatic tensions... Do these events compounded cause a 300-500 point sell off. Nope, just a 25.78 loss in the Dow and the Nasdaq rose 39.80. The only way to describe the market this weak is "Resilient." Normally all of the events listed above would cause a significant down turn in the market. The fact that the market only had a half hour hiccup in reaction to Rubin's resignation is very telling. The supply/demand argument could not have better support for its case than the recent performance of the market. The market is not following normal valuation inspired buying and selling. Retail investors just want to own stocks. The demand has far outpaced supply and IPO's like TheStreet.com show that the supply of internet stocks is very small relative to the demand. Ultimately, things like earnings and maybe even assets will be factored into the equation, but apparently they do not matter now.
