Your chances of getting a real bad virus like CIH are low, but boot viruses are everywhere.

I had some graphics work done a few years ago. The disk they gave me with the finished work was infected with a boot virus.

Boot viruses are not that bad, but if you don't have any software to tell you that you have a virus, you will spend many hours trying to figure out whats going on.

If you never share disks, only buy packaged brand new software (never opened), never download anything or open an e-mail attachment. Then your risk of a virus is next to zero.
