We just know it. We don't have to prove it. But we'd better stay away from the Feelies thread-- they are very hard on irrational thought, which would limit our posting abilities severely.

I'm concerned about Mel's rather cryptic appearance just now.

"I can almost prove it" --- there are much more precise mathematical phrases ---
1. "it can be shown" = I am almost certain that someone could prove it.
2. "it has been shown" = I think I once saw a proof
3. "it may be shown" = someone more able than I might be able to prove it.
