Will 'Star Wars' Games Become A Force on the Mass Market?

....Most games designed for hard-core gamers, like the Quake series, are stuck in a velvet ghetto of around five million players.

But the Star Wars games could reach a market of as many as 30 million -- casual game players who are also Star Wars fans.

Trends that have turned the game industry upside down also favor LucasArts. The technology on today's machines allows players to create virtual movies. Game revenue, growing at 25% a year to $5.5 billion in 1998, rivals movie receipts. Sales of low-cost personal computers and machines like Sony's Playstation have broadened the reach of games to adults and girls, an audience more likely to buy familiar, branded mass-market titles rather than ultraviolent Doom-like games.....

From the 5/13 WSJ
If the industry is growing at 25%, THQI should be able to match that without any problems. Go THQ.
