Aitch: We had an extensive discussion about the benefits of COMPAQ offering free internet access with its boxes in October-December 1998. I remember that Lynn among others had ideas about it. It was about the time that I reported that Dixons - the largest retailer in the UK - had started to make the offer for boxes over a certain price. Dixons started their own ISP in order to do As you know I have monitored progress. They have done so well that they are thinking of spinning off the ISP. The battle between ISP is becoming intense - UK residents now have a choice of about 8 free ISP.
