NetObjects has a new program coming out called TopPage. According to the review in the "First Looks" section of PC Magazine (May 4, 1999, p. 60) it's better than FrontPage, which is from Microsoft and which costs almost twice as much. The street price for TopPage is $60.

I'll be getting a copy and so will millions of other people.

Wit let's you in when *nobody else* from their internal short list wants any. I have seen their "first come--first serve" firsthand, and it violates the Straight Face Test. I have placed indications of interest (conditional offer is their term) within *seconds* of my pager notifying my of their allotment, all to no avail. By the time my queue is recorded, I am about 200,000 on the list--missed Priceline and others that way.

When I did get in (you guessed it--NETO) they only gave me 100 shares--which I am beggining to think is a favor. I still think it should hit the 20's, though, as it is a good takeout candidate for someone (i.e. IBM?).

Keep the faith, NETO'ers. Give it some time to get off it's butt.

Dirk

Trevor,

I have built about a dozen sites with NETO, running from about 10 pages to over 300. Very happy with it. Intuitive. Not tied to BOTS like Frontpage. A great money saver when it comes to quick development. And you don't have to hand code. I've seen a wide range of sites built with it. From simple to complex. Seems to handle the chores just fine.

As for the competitors, FP ... of course MSFT can throw money at it like it going out of style, and bundle it or give it away free. I've used it ... free was still too expensive. InterDev is different. NETO does offer other components that allow it to do a great number of things. Check their site at netobjects.com.

Just my .02 cents.

David
