A long time coming for Alpha Industries's stock surge:

This current boom in the local (MA) economy reminds me a lot of the Economic Miracle of the 1980s, as Mike Dukakis referred to it. Then it was minicomputers, now it's mobile communications and the Internet. Excessive concentration in industries subject to rapid technological change is the big risk. Alpha has additional risk because a large proportion of their sales go to a few customers, e.g. Motorola. Look what that's done for TFS.

These guys are in the right place at the right time, for now. But they're not doing anything very innovative, and dozens of companies are now targeting the handset market. If this thing rolls over, do you want to have your money invested in these people? I'm not convinced that much has been learned from what happened 10-15 years ago.

Kopin's GaAs business is riding this same wave, on the backs of their customers, Conexant in particular.

Excuse the negativity. WT
