Teflon--I second that emotion!
Frank and Lindy--why isn't Softee a subject on G&K thread, since it's in transition now and clearly making investments in broadband like mad?

>> It amazes me that this G&K Portfolio Message Board spends absolutely NO TIME discussing the absolute monster Silverback of them all, MSFT.

Teflon, mea culpa. Mr. Softee is my longest term position and the diamond of my core holdings. I read every post (even ed's and Toy's) on the Microsoft thread, follow the news of Bill's incredible spending spree, and am currently recommending msft as a screaming long term buy to every friend and relative who wants my advice (and a few who don't). That being said, I have not pushed msft on this thread as I assumed that everyone here already recognizesd Microsoft as the #1 Silverback that it clearly is. Any investor who discounts a company that posts 44% NET MARGINS should have their online trading privileges revoked.

I would be delighted if you would update the thread on a real time basis about Microsoft news and angles, like why they are pumping $4B into CWI UK, and how the doj case is shaping up.

Frank

Teflon, You are not alone in your sentiment about MSFT. In June they will release Office 2000. Windows NT 2000 is released in the fall. Either one of these products has gorilla like implications in the marketplace. They continue to position themselves to participate significantly on the net irregardless of what happens with broadband.

All of the broadband discussion,as well as the court case, disguise the fact that they are entering what will probably prove to be the greatest earnings cycle in their history.(ie: Office 2000,Win2000)

As computer prices drop the market really opens up for the PC. One thing clear as we hear PC growth rates is that any thought that the PC is dying is wrong. An obvious beneficiary of lower hardware prices is MSFT.

As Asian economies recover watch how quickly they reinvest in their technology infrastructure. Once again a major beneficiary is MSFT. This should begin to show up in the regional revenue splits this quarter.

I agree with you that MSFT is the classic silverback gorilla. With technological innovation moving at such a rapid pace, it's easy to forget how dramatically MSFT is affecting the server and database markets with NT. This is about to get a tremendous boost as servers adopt Win2000 and Xeon and Merced architectures. The next couple of years are going to deliver substantial rates of return.

IMHO of course,
Tom
