(CBS.MW) -- EBay and SkyTel said Thursday they're teaming up to offer wireless services for customers of EBay's online auctions. EBay (EBAY: news, msgs) users will be able to get auction updates through SkyTel (SKYT: news, msgs) pagers, cell phones and personal digital assistants. The devices will notify buyers when they have been outbid in an auction and when they have won an auction. Sellers will be alerted when their items have sold. Users will also receive bulletins of EBay community-wide news and new services. "Our users often tell us that they would like to follow EBay away from the home or the office," Steve Westly, vice president of marketing and business development at EBay, said in a statement. EBay will promote the SkyTel service on its popular Web site. The auction alert service will be launched by July. Later in the year, SkyTel and EBay plan to offer the ability to increase auction bid amounts directly from wireless devices. Shares of EBay jumped 6 7/16 to 205 3/16; SkyTel fell 1 11/32 to 20 3/8.
