I think that you are probably right about strategy, but I disagree
about the technical point. You don't necessarily need to rewrite an
application in order to connected it via something like HTTP. There is
certainly some risk in a company betting on Java, but the risk is in
whether tools and standards in the future will be based around the
language. The existing application can stay where it is, assuming that
it works okay where it is, which is generally not the case. Java in
the enterprise isn't just hype -- there are lots problems with the
fat-client model, and companies are looking for some way out. Whether
Oracle has a good answer remains to be seen, but the problem is real.
