I think we can thank Big Lou Gerstner for the 'net stock downturn today. The guy really trashed the pure internet stocks:

As he appeared to pierce holes in the lofty valuations of Web darlings, Gerstner said traditional companies, such as Wal-Mart, and Banc One, will change the competitive landscape for Amazon.com and NetBank.

While a couple may be profitable, he said, many are just "fireflies before the storm."

Gerstner also stressed that while Net firms "capture eyeballs," IBM generates "earnings and cash."
