Windows NT is nothing to sneeze at. Granted not unix or linux, but what about Windows NT 5.0? I do not pretend to know the technical comparisons. But I do know this: msft is coming on very strong in the low end and sees the mid-range and high end as areas for growth. msft is not resting on its laurels in this area. Oracle's monopoly in database servers at the mid/high end appears vulnerable longterm imo. msft is targeting oracle the way it targeted nscp.

In fact, there has been an interesting anecdote circling Oracle the last couple years. Apparently perhaps a decade ago, BG had written on his office white board 'baloni.' When someone asked him what it meant, he said, "Borland, Apple, Lotus, Oracle, Novell, IBM." These were all the companies BG was out to decimate as competition. Oracle has perceived itself now as the only one of those generals left standing.
