I, for one, understand your feelings toward the proliferation of conspiracy advocates. As for myself, I am not by any stretch of the imagination a conspiracy theorist. In fact, I stated explicitly that I don't know or have an opinion as the the validity of the GATA claims.

My debate was on whether 'manipulation' exists (in 'theory or reality'). But it seems to me people are confusing the implications of the GATA claim.

The way I understand it, there would be nothing wrong with shorting as much gold as one like (GS). But the rub would be that the English Gov. tried to talk the market down in order to 'save' GS. They stated their intention to sell gold reserves. I suppose that enough people were upset at the US for bailing LTCM up front, that is it shouldn't be surprising that a backhanded way to bail GS would upset folks even more. Call it what you will.

Time will tell.
