El,

Respectfully, El, I was there and I do not necessarily believe that question surprised Rosen. Conversely, he specifically commented that that was not the 1st time he had been asked that question. After some audience laughter, he gave the patented, non-committal, company answer which is the only answer he could give considering that the details are (where) not worked out.

'Spin-off' has always been speculated and I believe even mentioned by 5ffer, so how could Rosen be suprised and oblivious to that question? I would expect that any spin-off of AV would have to wait till CPQ gets a new CEO and CFO, not that they have to wait, only that an AV spin-off at this time would be viewed as management not having their priorities in order (there are more important things for CPQ to work on right now).

Looks like CPQ may move towards the $25 strike next week ($75 million of $25 calls still out there, most of which probably hedge a short position, therefore we may also see new short positions established after next friday).
