I think the synergies between IBM and AT&T are significant. Armstrong understands what IBM can bring to the table and he will be very adept at getting the maximum out of these resources. He was the number two executive and in my view should have been CEO instead of Akers but I believe he he was ahead of his time from the standpoint of being too aggressive. When it was apparent he was never going to get the top spot he left to become a CEO at, I believe, Hughes. He will make the same impact at AT&T that Gerstner did, and is doing, at IBM.
