OT: Games

It may be heresy to suggest this on the 3Dfx board but for best game of '99 hands down, Baldurs Gate.

No 3d but a very engrossing game.

OT: GAMES?

What's the consensus here for best game in 1999?

Given the trend, I think DiabloII will be the best seller of 1999. Everquest seems to be getting a lot of attention too.

OT - Games: Well, the best FPS so far is Tribes. I'm talking overall game, not just graphics. Graphics are actually kinda weak. If Q3 or UT can achieve the richness of gameplay that Tribes has and can outdo the graphics (probably not hard), one of them will likely take that crown. After having played Tribes, you will never again be satisfied with a game that offers only DM and CTF as its multiplayer options. Having said that, I found Q3 Test rather uninteresting. This is not to say that it can't be. It's just that as it is, I have no compelling reason to continue playing it, and therefore won't be a very good "tester."

Baldurs Gate is a very good game and I played through it completely twice something I have never done. However my best game for 1999 is Everquest. I think this is the first step towards a persistant virtual world. If you are into RPGs at all, this game is crack cocaine. Adventuring with a party of real people in a huge 3d virtual world is totally engrossing and very addictive. I bought the expansion pack for Baldurs gate and Xwing Alliance but so far I have not removed either of them from their boxes. I am going down to E3 tonight so maybe I will let you know what stands out down there. I am also going to try and get a feel for which graphics hardware the game companies are demoing their games on.
