I have a large trading position right now in Dell. I expected it to make a big move to the upside today and it did not. I will not hold this over the weekend unless Dell moves up tomorrow or an analyst comes out with positive comments about expected earnings. If Dell misses, we could be looking at high 30s.

BTW, DELL will RISE again. IMO, there is NOT a stronger or healthier technology company out there. Period. Soon the BIG money will figure this out..!!

I think today's drop was profit taking. People needed some spending cash to buy IBM. All the techs were trimmed a bit. Dell wasn't going up as fast, the internuts weren't running fast, so there was a jump to IBM. The volume hasn't been big enough in Dell stock to sustain price in the face of distractions. Traders will be cashing in some IBM and RMBS to buy their Dell before Tuesday.
TP - IMHO

Say Frank what did old Lou say specifically to hurt Dell anyway? I can't say what I will do at this point, I have to see the earnings for Q1 and more importantly I need to see what kind of 'guidance' we get from DELL.

Frank - Could you find time between your ranting and raving to provide a link showing where Gerstner trashed Dell??? I think you are taking what Mohan said at face value... Gerstner made one comment about I-nut stocks, and I hardly think he considers Dell in that category...

John

Frank, Lou's comments are uncalled for. I thought he was a professional, but his rambling about the net shows that he still has a few loose marbles. Although the comments mentioned no names but referring as the top net companies, it did have an effect to the entire tech sector.

What will I do? Nothing on my Dell core holdings but will close my long position of May37.5 calls on Dell. I have some decent profit. Never be greedy. One astute investor said: "you can never go broke taking profit". Was that Warren Buffett, or Jimmy Buffett or Will Rogers? VBG.

Good Investing

Re: "What is everyone planning to do over the next couple of days before and after Dell reports? Appreciate you comments"

Frank I'm a gambler and once in awhile I found it very profitable to bet on the come just when everything looks like one should drop out. Now as far as Dell's current trend/trading is concerned it looks to me like a classical buy, in the face of selling, the day before earnings (of course they may start buying tomorrow?) report.

Look back a few weeks at IBM the day before their earnings the stock was trending down. If I remember correctly it was due to 5fer's CPQ statement even after CPQ said their problems weren't market related. Of course we all know what happened after that IBM had a great great report and thereafter everything they said the market has liked and they can do no wrong. Why they'll seemingly every listen to Lou as if he was their stock broker! now isn't that a kick?

IMO today's late trading was protective profit taking in the face of a high CPI tomorrow and the FOMC Tuesday. I know the PPI was benign but profit takers use things like this to have an excuse to take flight.

Next Wednesday DELL will make up for lost time if the FED don't panic the bond market and if the MM don't play games on May experations!
