The Smithsonian had a very good exhibit on internment at the Museum of American History. The internees were often terribly patriotic, as immigrants often are, and suffered a strange confusion of emotion at being treated in this way...
On Asian culture, it has been my good fortune to have seen some fine exhibits in the last few years at the National Gallery of Art, from Cambodia, Taiwan, and Japan. Also, Baltimore has one of the finest permanent collections in the country at the Walters, and the Smithsonian has the Freer and Sackler. My appreciation of oriental art has grown tremendously....
