From CBS Marketwatch...

<<Show me the money

Gerstner also stressed that while Net firms "capture eyeballs," IBM generates "earnings and cash."

Even so, IBM has its own share of eyeballs, he said, explaining that the company's two year marketing efforts to get its "e-business" initiative across has been such a success, competitors are following suit.

Gerstner, however, appeared cool to the increasingly visible marketing efforts by IBM competitors. He even found it amusing that "one of our competitors" is gunning for the "dot" in the ".com," when they really should be gunning for the whole thing.

IBM has a recognition factor of  7-to-1 as an e-business leader over its nearest competitor, he added. >>

Last time I checked DELL.com had MORE eyeballs than IBM's websites. DELL is also are growing sales and earnings at VERY IMPRESSIVE rates. Of course we could compare the ROIC for each firm <GG>!! IBM may have won the early rounds of the e-business mindshare battle. Yet, we'll see who comes out ahead in the LONG RUN.

I still feel that DELL is UNDERVALUED.

Best Regards,

Scott

CTC,

Okay,

IBM is going to be a services company that is web enabled.
This is the new IBM e-commerce vision.

Not bad for a new direction.

That is why the stock is up today. Looks like CPQ totally missed the boat on this services strategy!

Also, they can sell DELL IBM components over the web by hooking into DELL's e-commerce component ordering system. that should increase e-commerce orders by 16B.

Regards,

Jim Kelley
