gandro,

i agree 100% with your observation. i had the same reaction as you when i heard their idea for audio advertising on the cc. you can filter out visual stuff, but at the very least it is harder to filter out audio info. portico is part of a fast-paced business concept - like cell phone. such real-time delays would negate the concept. can just see people walking along the street telling their pda to shut up. i must admit that the lack of sensitivity to this issue on the part of gmgc scares me.

From ma9132,Yahoo GMGC Club board:
I wrote Wendy to get more infor about the "audio ads" and she answered:
"Thanks for your comments on the conference call. The discussion about
banner ads revolved around the idea of creating "audio ads" for web based
services. When a user would call up their Quicken.com voice service, for
example, they might hear a short audio ad for a financial service provider.
This is how General Magic may offset some of the costs of providing a free,
Internet-based service. The goal is to make them short and sweet, not
annoying.

We are also currently running web banner ads on a variety of websites to
market the Portico service. These have no audio, they are just plan banner
ads. I hope this helps to clarify for you."
How will a "free-internet based service" benefit the small investor(little people)
Thanks

Very truly yours,

The initial focus for audio ads will be on free services. Those ads will provide one business model for doing such services, and may even cover the cost of 800 access.
