Oops...I did the same thing...

I had a 5:05 timestamp and ended up buying a little too much on Wednesday...which left me with only a few hundred left in the cash and option buying power. I too, sold to free enough cash, but this time, the ETrade rep was right, no shares for me...

RDMSQUITO...
I was in the same boat this morning. I had about $900 cash available but I sold a small position to make $ available in case I got ALOY. The only thing you haven't mentioned is whether you have a cash or margin account. I have a margin account. I got 100 ALOY with a 5:06 timestamp.

>>Well ,I said yesterday I would let everyone know how I did by freeing up cash at market open today. I had been a little short but made a sale this morning and had plenty of cash available by 9:45am. Just got my dear john. And I had a 5:04 timestamp too...<<

I was in the same boat as you on the cash available balance. Yesterday, I had a intended quick day trade head south rapidly that I refused to close out for a loss.So I reluctantly sold some other holdings at open this morning to free up enough cash. It seems that as mentioned on this thread earlier that Cash Must Be In Account the Morning Of Pricing.. Had a good timestamp at 5:05 on Alloy, but got the "Dear John" alert. I should not mind my cash being tied up, because I have added to my IPO holdings in TSCM, MMXI, VUSA and NETP on dips.
