In the early days of the cable vs. xDSL debates (circa 1996) there was also the issue of security being a problem with cable, i'm not sure of any developments on this front- also to get symmetrical transmission for cable modems an additional coax line has to be run into the home/business, which is going to be expensive and time consuming-i agree both technologies will have their niche, but xdsl has some advantages if only the rbocs had an incentive to get off their monopolistic asses-fwiw jeremic
