- DVD news:
- Sales to U.S. dealers of DVD players were up 328% for the first
16 weeks of 1999 over the same period in 1998; for the 16th week, they
were up 642%! If that rate continues, more than 3.5 million players
will have been sold to U.S. dealers in 1999 alone
.
- Circuit City claims it is selling more Divx than open-DVD players
and has 450 Divx titles available.
- Blockbuster's initial public offering notice filed with the SEC
May 6 says they "cannot predict the impact on us if Divx becomes widely
available and accepted."
- Pioneer plans to introduce a recordable 4.7 GB DVD system in
June. The recorder will be around $5,000, disks $22.

Carmac, hows this compare in cost to a 4.7 hard drive? Oh, well.
