Not on an anti-automotove rant...but

A = Alpha not Alfa (Italian zip car)
L = Lima (lee-mah as in Peru) vs Limo (road toad)
O = Omega or Oscar (not a car)

X = X-Ray

Some pilots use city names for the easy ones like Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver etc

Edit : It IS Alfa vs Alpha, same phonetics though.

If you really want to confuse them, use stock symbol phonetics instead of pilot phonetics....

"I'd like to short 100 CTS, that's Citibank AT&T Sears ...."
