U.S. trade rep says China's entry to WTO on track

TOKYO (AP) -- The furor in Beijing over NATO's bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia should not affect talks on Beijing's entry into the World Trade Organization, a top U.S. trade official said Thursday.

"I remain optimistic ... that we can bring China into the WTO on a commercially strong basis -- as the WTO isn't a political but commercial organization -- this year," Charlene Barshefsky said.

Also heard on news tonight that China will formally accept apology from pres. Clinton. CNN also reporting that China will not veto US Russia peace plan.
