Fujitsu Gives Up Next-Generation Battery Development

Fujitsu Ltd. has pulled out of research and development of flexible, large-capacity batteries [read laptop LiPoly] in a move to allocate its resources to business areas with more growth potential, company officials said Wednesday.
The computer maker has invested hundreds of millions of yen in the next-generation battery business at its subsidiary in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, in the past three years.
Fujitsu intended to produce batteries that can change shape freely, for instance a three-millimeter-thick sheet or a round ball, to make them easier to install in notebook personal computers. It also aimed to boost their capacity and stretch their life.
But the company decided to procure such batteries from other companies [VLNC?] as similar products have begun appearing on the market, the officials said.
Could this be Fujitsu bowing to VLNC's patents and manufacturing capability? Thoughts?
