The final selection of films to be shown at the festival (22 for the Palme d'Or) has been drawn from 1138 films from 39 countries worldwide. Directors showing films in the official selection for the first time include Leos Carax, Pedro Almodovar, Tim Robbins, Takeshi Kitano and Kevin Smith. The festival gives a representative and truly global view of the film industry, and particularly of the non-anglophone market - only 7 of the 22 films in this year's official selection are in the English language. As for the stars, a representative selection of the world's finest is expected to attend, from Sean Connery to Catherine Zeta Jones, Victoria Abril to Gong Li, Gerard Depardieu to Chiara Mastroianni. This is the first year of 3Com Palm Computing's involvement with the Cannes Film Festival, the start of what the company hopes will be a long and fruitful relationship. Anne-Marie Bourcier, 3Com Palm Computing's International Marketing Director, commented: "The Cannes Festival is an important event on the international film calendar, and one we're delighted to support it. Style, innovation and organisation are the hallmarks of the festival - attributes that are reflected in our own product range. Essentially, we hope to ensure that we can keep the attending press in the picture as the Festival progresses, combining constant updates on the programme with useful information for visitors to Cannes. This is the first time we've operated this type of programme at the Cannes Festival, and we're expecting it to be very successful. " Both the Palm V and Palm III(tm) connected organisers are based on the popular Palm Computing(r) platform and run on version 3.1 of the award-winning Palm OS(tm) operating system. The products share the award-winning features that have made the Palm III and PalmPilot(tm) products the most popular handheld organisers in the market - according to IDC (November 1998), Palm Computing platform organisers currently hold a 72 percent share of the worldwide personal companion market. These features include infrared "beaming" which enables users to share information wirelessly with other infrared-enabled Palm Computing platform device users; and the ability to store 6,000 addresses, five years of appointments (approximately 3,000), 1,500 "To Do" items, 1,500 memos and 200 e- mail messages. The Palm V organiser offers a groundbreaking, sleek, ultra-thin industrial design, convenient new features - such as a rechargeable lithium ion battery permitting up to one month's operation on only one charge - and a full line of matching accessories. The product rounds out the Palm Computing product family as the optimal handheld solution for executives, mobile professionals, design-conscious consumers and others for whom style and size are key determinants. At nearly one-half the thickness of the Palm III model, and weighing only four ounces (115g), the Palm V delivers unprecedented portability to the handheld computing market. Mang
