One thing that Gerstner didn't mention is that users aren't accessing the Internet because
IBM is supplying technology for it. IBM is benefitting as an infrastructure supplier
because demand is driven for services provided by the top of the food chain:


I am not sure what Gerstner's point reall was.

Gerstner's figure is buoyed in that the systems integration business is a big part of IBM's revenues. A good part of that for every professional services, specially computer services firms such as EDS, CSC, IMRS, KEA, etc., have been transitioning to the internet systems support for 5 years. Much of the revenue that he cites is not new revenue, just revenue that years ago would've been classed as client-server or mainframe, instead of internet now.
