Identix Appoints Biometrics Industry Veteran Spence Vice President BioSecurity Division Physical Access Control

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 1999--Identix Inc. (AMEX:IDX) Friday announced that it has appointed veteran biometrics industry executive William J. Spence, 38, as vice president BioSecurity Division Physical Access Control, effective immediately.

Spence comes to Identix from Campbell, Calif.-based Recognitions Systems Inc. (RSI), where he served as vice president of marketing and business development, heading the development of distribution channels, as well as product development for the hand geometry biometrics company.

Spence started with RSI in 1992 as a sales engineer and moved up to progressively more responsible positions, including regional sales manager and vice president of sales and marketing.

According to the announcement by Identix Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Randall C. Fowler, "Bill's many years of experience in the biometrics field will be instrumental in the growth of our BioSecurity Division Physical Access Control. He has a strong corporate background, hands-on biometric expertise and a solid reputation in the business community. He has proven himself an invaluable part of senior management at his former posts."

During Spence's seven years in the biometrics industry with RSI, he has focused on the access control, time and attendance and identification markets. Between 1983 and 1987, Spence worked at San Jose, Calif.-based Semiconductor Equipment Division of Eaton Corp. (NYSE:ETN) as a sales engineer, selling semiconductor capital equipment to such firms as Intel and National Semiconductor.

From August of 1987 to 1991, Spence served as the product marketing manager for San Jose-based LTX Corp. (Nasdaq:LTXX), a company providing test and measurement equipment to the semiconductor industry.

Spence, who resides with his wife in Northern California, received a bachelor's of science in industrial engineering from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. His articles on the application of biometric devices have been published in many security and time and attendance publications.

Identix, www.Identix.com, is a leader in designing, developing, manufacturing and marketing products for the capture and/or comparison of fingerprints for security, anti-fraud, law enforcement and other applications.

Brad;

Talk about stories...CNN is running a 2 minute new spot on bio-metrics this morning. The focus is on facial recognition and Sensar, however, at the end they point to Compaq use of fingerprint recognition and show the IDT scanner. They don't identify IDX by name.

There is a much larger market in computers than at ATMs. There will be room for all...I think..
