If that rumor about Lucent buying 3Com is true then I am selling my ASND/LU and buying Cisco. I just don't see the synergies between them! The entire remote access line is duplicated. The Palm Pilot is nice, but I wouldn't buy the whole company for it. Oh, I forgot, what about that huge line of low-margin interface cards, PCMCIA, and modems. I don't get it!!!!!

Let's see.... Cisco has been kicking 3Com's ass for many years now.... Why don't we buy their second-rate product line. IF Lucent was smart they would buy Cabletron! At least they would get the Yago router and Spectrum Enterprise Management System. Come on McGinn, you did well when you bought Ascend so don't go over the edge with 3Com.

Brian,

A couple days ago, the CEO of UUnet made a comment about internet
bandwidth demand is like double every three to four month. The ATM
network does not scale well. They really prefer IP solutions. It seems
to me the market opportunity on new voice, video, and data integrated
high bandwidth IP network is tremendous. Question is who would be
positioned well enough to take full advantage of this opportunity.

The trick for us is to find a potential winner for capitalizing on
the opportunity. Cisco and Juniper both are well positioned. It is
an opportunity for ASND/LU as well. I think they recognized the
potential, but they had made huge investment in the ATM core business.
It is hard for them to turn around at this point. This is just my
opinion.

Cheers!
Mike
