That bus crash was a tragedy. What does it have to do with the topic though?

If that's an argument against legalization, then what about the bus drivers in NJ who crashed while DWI? They had similar track records to the Bedell case. So we should outlaw alcohol.
If we're going down this road, what about the bus driver who crashed last winter on the Garden State Parkway, had his name and record (which wasn't that bad) dragged through the mud, but was finally determined to have been the victim of a slippery road?
OOPS! All he got was a "sorry, man" and a slap on the back, and a new job. Of course, by now the political damage was done. He was victimized, and the pols got the leverage they needed to pass some BS drinking legislation they had wanted to pass.

Politics is a game of smoke (not inhaling) and mirrors. These guys will use a story like this to get you to believe something exists when it doesn't. Don't believe the press, my friend. I spent 10 years working in it, and I left because of the way they twist the truth and play into politicians' hands.
I could tell you stories about some journalists (some of whom you probably respect and admire) that would curl your hair. Of course, I'd probably get a slander suit brought against me, too. But it's all there. It's just not public record (for PR reasons).
