This morning's CPI number is shocking. Not because of the extent of inflation (which the number underestimates) but because for the first time in a long time the commerce dept hasn't given the market exactly what it ordered. It leaves eggs on the faces of so many of those chanting the "little sign of inflation" mantra. Including Greenspan!

Heads will roll for this, as Wall Street and Greenspan will have to come up with a reason for not raising interest rates. Maintaining the bubble just won't do for an official explanation.

And I see Gold is no longer an inflation hedge. Much as it was in the last days of the Gold Pool when the the price of virtually everything except gold began taking off.
