.. it should be met w/ heavy and even eager buying at first. There was a dip buying this morning around 9:50 EST in NASDAQ, driving index from -50 to -23.

I agree very strongly with your thinking here. If there is to be any sustained move to the downside, we must first churn through all of the available buyers - recent experience tells us there is quite a herd of BTDers. I'd like to see a string of modestly negative days, and then a nice drop as folks run out of buying power.
