If we were comparing vinyl to CD (two different formats). There would not be a problem with the record companies getting their royalties. Whether or not the record companies get their royalties is dependent upon the deliver system (radio station, distributor, or the internet music provider)and not the format (companies like mode.net ). If these delivery systems chose to provide music in different formats to its customers then the MP3 as a format could survive. JMHO. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong... and try not to attack me in the process.
