Actually, here's a quote from a recent WS report on Comm ICs that has relevance to our discussion about UNPH -

"OEMs that design-in a merchant product invest in more than just a single device or chipset, but an entire design methodology. As OEMs and chip vendors are aware, this tightens the bonds between the customer and the supplier. The OEM gets design leverage and faster time-to-market, but pays with limited second-sourcing (which increases supplier GMs) and the prospective expense of switching to another IC vendor's roadmap. In contrast, the chip vendor captures the OEM and enjoys steep competitive barriers to entry."

Couldn't have said it better myself!
