ah, yeah. Web-TV is a first generation STB. Remember when radio shack had their first "PC" with 4K of RAM? Products evolve.

"No one in their right mind will prefer an STB to a PC if the WebTV is a representative of the class. Am I missing something?" Yeah, my grandma is terrified of the PC but she uses her WebTV box often. For those who are intimidated by a PC WebTV feels safer. Your right tho' it sucks if your used to using a PC. So do your in laws like it? Would they buy PC instead? Over time they will get better. They will not replace the PC but will open a market to those who would not buy a PC anyway. There a ton of room for both.

Burt - <Re:Set Top Boxes - I have spent a fair amount of time with a WebTV Plus we bought for my in-laws so that they could have email contact with their grandchildren plus internet access. They have it attached to their large screen tv and I have personally used it for quite a while. It ain't a pc. It ain't close. You get minimal email and minimal internet access. If you are used to PC versions of either email or web pages, you will easily strongly prefer the PC. Let alone all the other things that you can do with a PC. No one in their right mind will prefer an STB to a PC if the WebTV is a representative of the class. Am I missing something?> Thank you for your observations. I don't believe you are missing anything, relative to the state of the technology offerings today. I would expect the technology to improve over time, but it aint there yet. PB
