Yes, and Happy Walleye Opener to all. Maybe we'll catch our limit of OEMs next week.

DSI - Distributed Storage Infrastructure click for infrastructure map (updated 3/23/99)

A goal of Internet2 is to enable and demonstrate enhanced research, education and other services (e.g., health care, environmental monitoring) by taking advantage of "virtual proximity" created by an advanced communications infrastructure. The Distributed Storage Infrastructure (DSI) project led by Micah Beck and Terry Moore of the Innovative Computing Laboratory at the University of Tennessee and Bert Dempsey of the the University of North Carolina's School of Information and Library Science is an important component in reaching this goal.

The DSI project aims to resolve accessibility issues associated with sharing and using Internet- based educational content. DSI accomplishes this by creating an infrastructure and defining a strategy for the support of server channels for academia. Such channels, called Internet Content Channels, enable replicated collections of files to be transparently delivered to end user communities at a chosen cost/performance point via a flexible, policy-based application of resources.

Although files served by this project are replicated over multiple domains and multiple servers, a single URL is utilized to access a given file, regardless of the actual domain of the server called to service the request. This is accomplished through the employment of a "resolver" server which performs the work of selecting the optimum server to service a URL request.

NetStore '99: The End of End-to-End?

Of particular interest are issues in the development of the Internet2 Distributed Storage Infrastructure Project (I2-DSI) and applications supported by it.

Dr. Beck......

Activities

Professor Beck has been an active researcher in a number of areas of computer systems, including distributed operating systems, the theory of distributed computation, compilers and parallel computation. His recent activities have focused on high performance networking and it applications, specifically the Internet2 project. He serves as chair of the Internet2 Network Storage working group.

Anyone know him willing to e-mail about switched FC fabrics?

For the initial testbed, IBM servers with ~1 TB of storage and 1 GB RAM are currently being installed at high-speed backbone access points in North Carolina, Tennessee, Indiana, South Dakota, and Hawaii. Collaborations with Canadian, European and Japanese networks are under discussion.

At UNC-CH, we are working on efficient data replication mechanisms for the I2-DSI core servers and support for potential I2-DSI content providers.

Doesn't sound like serverless storage would work well here?
WIll FC play well here? Any help from those in the biz? Thanks in advance.
