Log On America Partners With Nortel Networks

Alliance to Deliver Voice, Data and High Speed Internet Access Over DSL Throughout Northeast Corridor

PROVIDENCE, R.I.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 1999-- Log On America Inc. (NASDAQ:LOAX - news), the premier provider of high-speed DSL services in the Northeast Corridor, today announced an agreement with Nortel Networks (NYSE:NT - news; TSE:NTL - news), a leading manufacturer of telecommunications equipment.

Under this agreement the two companies will jointly roll out a network infrastructure that will allow Log On America to bundle local dial-tone, instate toll, long distance, High-Speed DSL Internet access and cable TV programming over the existing Bell Atlantic (NYSE:BEL - news) infrastructure.

''This new alliance adds leading edge technologies, consulting capabilities and services which will enhance our ability to cross sell additional services to existing customers. Moreover, we will be better positioned to attract new customers,'' said David R. Paolo, Log On America's Chairman and CEO. ''This partnership will better enable Log On America to move forward with our aggressive plans to deploy voice, data and high-speed Internet products and to offer enhanced high-capacity services throughout the Northeast corridor.''

Log On America will be launching high-speed data access services using Nortel Networks' award-winning 1-Meg Modem. 1-Meg Modem requires no rewiring in the home and does not require an installation service call. Nortel Networks' 1-Meg Modem solution is a cost effective, plug-and-play, integrated voice and data solution that will allow access to data applications from individual's homes at speeds of up to 30 times faster than traditional dial-up modems. Log On America's customers with 1-Meg Modem service will be able to access the Internet, send and receive e-mails, and download files at megabit speeds through their existing residential telephone lines - giving them dedicated high-speed access to the Internet. The 1-Meg Modem also provides users the capability of accessing voice calls while connected to the Internet. In addition Nortel Networks will be deploying its market leading Passport ATM switches in the data backbone network for Log On America.

In addition, Log On America and Nortel Networks recently signed agreements to facilitate the deployment of telecommunication services as a facilities based re-seller.
