If you're a short-term investor in bonds, you buy them if you think the price is going higher, meaning you think interest rates are heading lower. Today, there were a lot of short-term bond investors who were spooked by the CPI numbers and sold, depressing the price, and increasing interest rates.

If you're a long-term bond investor, you might be a buyer today if you think 5.9% is a good return over the next 30 years. Some long-termers might think it wise to cash in some profits from stocks and lock in a 30-year 5.9% rate on some bonds.

Just depends on your time horizon.
