Canadian imac promo dept: Suddenly seeing a new round of iMac billboarding and TV adverts in Toronto market. TV ad is previous Jeff Goldblum ad with new grape iMac inserted at tail end of clip. Local Apple/Wintel retailer has gone big with a online order system featuring Apple. Their Apple floorspace went from about 80/20 Wintel/Apple to 30/70 respectively. Still no ApplsStore here and apparently no Apple in the Canadian Sears stores either (we lack the dedicated computer departments apparently). emmell

The things can sell themselves, if somebody just writes the applescript and multimedia. Man, the more I think about it, the more I love this idea of having Phil Schiller doing a "This Old House" parody to sell Macs. Have him walking from room to room of some family's home, doing his best, "That's great, Jenny. Now let's go see how your dad is doing in the den" routine. Of course Jenny would be in her room clicking away on her tangerine iMac, surfing the Web, maybe buying some music or figuring out how to build a bomb...I don't know. In the den, dad sits at his 21" studio display, doing some markup on a couple AutoCad layouts of their new home. Phil fakes puzzlement: "Hey, dad, AutoDesk dropped Mac support for AutoCad two versions ago. What's this you're working on?" Dad smiles, and replies, "well, Phil, this is the latest version of AutoCad, and this IS a Mac. I'm running the software using VirtualPC, which was bundled with my 550Mhz G4. I can run any software program for either Windows or Mac, and I can do it blazingly fast." "Super!" Phil turns briefly to the camera, motioning to follow along as he makes for the stairs. "We'll check in with dad a bit later. Let's go see how Timmy's doing." Phil walks up to the door to Timmy's room, which is covered with pilfered biohazard warning signs, a picture of Bill Gates with a dart in it, and a multi-colored Apple logo sticker. It sounds like WWIII has broken out inside. Phil enters, temporarily deafened. "What're you up to, Timmy?!" No answer. Timmy's busy blasting away at some ridiculously detailed, fantastically loud game on his iMac. "Timmy?!" I'm still working on the ending.... ;) Mark
