These are excerpts from an email advertisement I received. Not posting as an ad, but to indicate: (1) does Cabot think Qualcomm is really an internet stock?; (2) mentioning Qualcomm in advertising for letter certainly indicates higher visibility of the company.
Second, come on re I* to go lower, still.

I think that the question you pose is one with which I have been wrestling, and maybe a few others on this thread as well (Clark, DaveMG?--I don't pretend to speak for them). Holding pivotal IPR as far as CDMA expansion in the world is concerned is enviable, but I for one am not convinced that such proprietary position, per se, is equivalent to maintaining proprietary control. ASIC design and development, handset incorporation of same and design-in of enlarging and complementary features constitute a significant part of Q!'s business. As complementary and ancillary (maybe even disruptive) technologies become important to the expansion of wireless, I would not like to see Q! cede all that potential product and technological innovation and profit to those who, by being in infra/systems development seat alone or with key leverage might be better positioned to it than the player with the essential patents to the underlying platform. In short, I would like to see Q! get closer to the position that MSFT has vis a vis its core competence.
Hope this is responsive to your query.
Regards. Steven
