MikeM:

To respond to your inquiry regarding my reference to co-axial plant -- no typo.

The reference to co-axial was taken from an e-mail I rec'd from a PacBell engineer with whom I maintain continual contact. It was rec'd the day after T announced it proposed acquisition of UMG & was in response to my inquiry how the telecos planned to respond to the obvious threat to their core business.

I was surprised (just as you are to my post) to see the term "co-axial" in his response. I can only take it to mean that, longer term, the telecos are serious in deploying viable technology & compatible plant that will deliver video, data & voice over the same pipe in the most cost effective manner. I presume there may be some economic value to the telecos in deploying co-axial plant v. fiber that leverages their existing copper infrastructure. I'm sure the industry folks here could provide some comment.
