If Mr. Abelson of Barrons predicted 8 months ago that oil would tank the market, that's no big deal. Here's why. Eight months ago, in October of '98, the Dow average was about 7900, now its about 11,000. We'd need nearly a 30% correction just to sink to where he predicted bad news would prosper. Mr. Abelson's significant contribution to Barrons is that his writing style encourages page turning and an occasional trip to the dictionary due, no doubt, to his penchant for thesaurusizing prose.
