RS:

I can generally pull up the bonds on my discount broker online account, except today, of course. Doesn't work for some reason. Barron's has the 11 3/8 of 04 at 65 X 68, down 5 for the week, yielding 24%. That is down from a couple weeks ago when they were all in the 70's, but up from the low 60's when Iridium's covenants were first extended, or the low 50's during the market drop in October. I'll post the prices of the others when I get access again.

Prices--I think LoralSoars is incorrect. I have not heard that price except when they discuss what the original plans were for G* pricing many years ago. I think they will come full circle back to those prices and less, but they believe they can get more now. So be it. I strongly disagree. I am also completely pissed about handset availability---30K at startup is a sin. Iridium has given us a great model as to how limited handset availability damages one's business plan. Can't G* see that? If the service providers truly believe in G*, why are they not stepping up and ordering hundreds of thousands of handsets straight away? Airtouch, in my estimate, will have less than 5,000 handsets available at startup for all of North America and Brazil. That sucks. It is a critical flaw. Also not mentioned is the fact that coverage for the upper reaches of Canada requires 48 sats. When will those last sats be in place? How are the planes going to fill? It looks like a slooooooooooooow rollout. Slow rollouts require cash. G* will not have the cash, although I do believe in the crafty financial abilities of Schwartz. All of these are questions for the annual meeting. By the way, who else is going?

Phones--I have not heard mention of anyone making such a truly "world" phone. I just hope they make the first generation in vast quantities. Remember that ERICY is not even starting on their phones until 90 days before startup. This is ridiculous.

I hesitate to respond to a query addressed to "esteemed" viewers, especially when posted by a rocket scientist.<g> However, FWIW, regarding a world phone - I haven't heard or seen anything about production of such an instrument. I am assuming that is rather far down the priority list. It seems increasingly clear that from its inception GSTRF never targeted the "world traveler" as a prime contributor to the income stream. I think I recall a recent post citing the CC and noting that fact.

That said, I agree that phone production looks painfully slow. I see where various posters have cited optimistic projections by service providers for subscribers. Curious if they correlate those numbers to the limited phone production figures we are familiar with.
