"Rolls Royce declared bankruptcy in 1971."

Michael,

I recall the bankruptcy was due to development and production of the engine for the Lockheed Tristar aircraft. The Tristar didn't help Lockheed's fortunes either. The motorcar division was profitable during this period, and ended up with new owners. Vickers, owner since 1980, recently sold it to Volkswagen and BMW.

The Rolls-Royce traded on London is the aerospace and defense operation and is now unrelated to the auto manufacturer.

Regards,
John
